During the match in Ranchi, Rovman Powell was dismissed in the sixth over off a delivery by Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav. After getting out, Powell angrily hit the ball away with his bat.
The ICC deemed this action a violation of Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct. This rule relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, or ground fixtures and fittings during an international match.
Meanwhile, Sherfane Rutherford faced consequences for expressing displeasure at an umpire’s decision. During the 13th over of the West Indies’ innings, the umpire did not signal a wide ball. Angered by this decision, Rutherford shouted at the umpire in an aggressive manner.

This behavior was considered a breach of ICC Article 2.8, which pertains to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision. On-field umpires Jayaraman Madangopal and Rohan Pandit, along with third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Virender Sharma, leveled the charges against both players.
However, Powell and Rutherford admitted their offenses and accepted the sanctions imposed by the ICC. Consequently, no formal hearing was required in the matter.
