A fresh injury to Indian cricket team star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has compounded the challenges for Team India. According to recent media reports, Hardik has sustained a new injury, which is set to keep him away from the cricket pitch for months. Furthermore, there is now uncertainty regarding his participation in the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to reports, the star all-rounder is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the ‘Centre of Excellence’ (CoE) in Bengaluru for a ‘stress injury’ in his lower leg (calf/shin area). The latest medical update from the CoE suggests that the road ahead will be long and requires a cautious approach, especially given that he has dealt with multiple injuries over the past 2–3 years.
Reports indicate that it will take another three weeks before Hardik Pandya can even begin light jogging. Once he clears this phase, his running intensity will be gradually increased over the following eight weeks.

Meanwhile, the BCCI medical team has taken a prudent approach by not setting a fixed deadline for his return to full match fitness. They recognize that the process of ensuring his complete recovery cannot be rushed. In fact, it is highly likely that Hardik will not be seen back on the field before the start of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Hardik Pandya to miss the Sri Lanka tour
Due to this fresh injury, Hardik Pandya has also been ruled out of Sri Lanka’s tour of India, which begins on December 13. During this tour, Sri Lanka is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series against India. In Hardik Pandya’s absence, players like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shivam Dube are expected to receive further opportunities within the Indian squad.
