Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the ‘Men in Blue’ (the Indian team) in the sport’s shortest format. India boasts a 100% win record in the three T20 Internationals played here between 2019 and 2024, having defeated the West Indies, Australia, and Bangladesh under varying and challenging conditions.
Hyderabad’s Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the Indian team
India’s T20I journey at this venue began on December 6, 2019, against a formidable West Indies side. Chasing a daunting target of 209 runs, the hosts displayed brilliant batting to secure victory with six wickets in hand—marking the highest successful run-chase at the stadium at the time.
Three years later, on September 25, 2022, India faced Australia in another high-pressure encounter. Demonstrating their prowess in run-chases, India overhauled Australia’s challenging target of 187 runs with six wickets to spare, further cementing the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium’s reputation as an ideal venue for batting in the second innings.
India’s third appearance at the venue, against Bangladesh on October 12, 2024, saw history being made. Batting first in Hyderabad for the first time, Indian batters launched a spectacular assault to post a massive 297/6 in 20 overs. This colossal total stands as the highest T20I innings score ever recorded by a Full Member nation in cricket history. Defending the huge total, India bowled out Bangladesh cheaply to secure a resounding 133-run victory—their largest margin of victory at the stadium.

It will now be interesting to see whether India maintains its 100% record at this venue or if the West Indies can stage a comeback to level the series at 2-2.
