Bangladeshi captain Litton Das would begin his full-time ODI captaincy on October 17, 2026, during the tri-series in the United Arab Emirates. Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and Bangladesh will play each other in a round-robin format prior to the final on October 23. Bangladesh will play Zimbabwe at Abu Dhabi on October 17 and Afghanistan on October 21.
Litton Das has identified batting consistency as a critical issue prior to the competition. The captain believes that in order for Bangladesh to prepare for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 and compete successfully in the tri-series, the team needs to break the pattern of failing to bat entire innings in previous ODI series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. “As senior players, we have to take responsibility,” the captain says. Both here (against Afghanistan in the ODIs) and in Zimbabwe, we were unable to bat for 50 overs,” Litton stated, as reported.
According to Litton Das, senior hitters must take responsibility
The captain stressed the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and drawing lessons from past performances without allowing past results to dictate future tactics. Bangladesh must proceed with confidence in the tri-series while taking lessons from recent games. “We cannot keep focusing on the fact that we played badly in the past and will do so again. What has happened in the past can help us prepare.” We will make an effort to play positively, and we must maintain a positive mindset,” Litton Das stated.
According to Litton Das, the tri-series is crucial for getting ready for the World Cup. “Really, it’s a big opportunity for me as a captain,” the captain acknowledged, adding that although there are fewer teams in a tri-series than in the Asia Cup, the pressure and intensity of competition remain the same. The Asia Cup and the World Cup are coming up. This, in my opinion, is the best preparation for us. Five or six teams will compete in the Asia Cup, whereas we play three teams in a tri-series, but the pressure and other factors are comparable,” Litton Das stated.
Aliss Al Islam’s inclusion illustrates the domestic form
The Bangladeshi captain acknowledged Aliss Al Islam, who had performed well in white-ball cricket and was called up for his first ODI. Aliss led the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League wicket-taking charts with 24 wickets in ten games for Prime Bank Cricket Club. At the Asian Games, he played his first T20 international match against Sri Lanka. Litton Das expressed confidence in the young bowler’s potential to benefit the team and feels that his domestic experience has sufficiently prepared him for international cricket.

“Aliss has undoubtedly performed exceptionally well in white-ball cricket. He has demonstrated his abilities, particularly on the Bangladeshi T20 circuit. I believe that he should be added to the team at this time. The team will benefit if he can gain a lot of knowledge by remaining with the team and helping Bangladesh,” Litton Das stated.
