Darcie Brown will miss the entire Women’s Big Bash League season due to a back disk injury, Cricket Australia announced on Monday, October 19. Darcie Brown will miss the entire WBBL competition, which takes place from October 29 to December 5.
Darcie Brown will miss the entire WBBL competition
During the Australia A tour of India, Brown, 23, played in two Twenty20 matches and one ODI, scoring 3 for 39 in Mohali, where she initially developed the disk issue. Due to the injury, she was unable to play in Australia’s bilateral series against Bangladesh and New Zealand after returning home.
After Darcie Brown returned from India, Cricket Australia put her on a de-loading program supervised by the national medical staff. National selector Shawn Flegler stated late last month that the medical team sincerely hoped she could return for the second half of the WBBL campaign. The program’s goal was to lessen strain on the injured disk and allow for a natural recovery. After being evaluated after returning from India last month, Brown’s injury has not yet healed enough for her to return to training after a period of de-loading. She won’t be able to regain full fitness in time for the forthcoming WBBL season as a result,” CA said in a statement.
Darcie Brown has played in 6 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 41 T20 Internationals while representing Australia in all three formats. She is among the fastest female bowlers in the sport, with a maximum speed of 127.2 km/h. Her exclusion from Australia’s T20 World Cup squad earlier this year was due to the national hierarchy’s determination that the conditions in England did not require express pace. Her back disk problem, which has now ended her WBBL campaign, initially appeared during the Australia A tour of India. Despite this, she played well before the injury got worse when she got back home.

Darcie Brown is still in the running for the Women’s T20 Champions Trophy, which will take place in India from February 14–28, according to Flegler, despite the setback. Prior to that tournament, which is the next big goal on the international schedule, Brown and Cricket Australia’s medical team will concentrate on getting her back to full fitness.
Brown is a good player who will be missed but is still a vital member of the team, according to Adelaide Strikers coach Luke Williams, who acknowledged the effect of her absence. Brown’s replacement in the Adelaide Strikers’ WBBL roster has not yet been confirmed.
