On October 12, 2026, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) gave the Greater Chennai Traffic Police 63 motorcycles totaling about ₹1 crore. The contribution was formalized through a handover and flagoff ceremony at the Police Commissionerate in Vepery, Chennai, as part of the franchise’s Corporate Social Responsibility program.
The ceremony was jointly conducted by CSK Managing Director K.S. Viswanathan and Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj. The vehicles were officially transferred to the traffic department when the two officials flagged off the fleet together.
The donation’s stated goal is to improve traffic cops’ ability to operate throughout the city. It is anticipated that the motorcycles will facilitate better patrolling, reduce traffic on Chennai’s roads, and aid in the enforcement of traffic safety laws.
The 63 motorcycles are split between two different models, each of which was selected to fulfilll a specific operational function within the traffic department. The majority of the fleet consists of thirty-eight Honda Shine motorcycles. Since they are lighter commuter bikes, they are ideal for navigating the congested, stop-start traffic that characterizes Chennai’s inner-city roads.
Royal Enfield Bullets, which provide more weight, presence, and durability, make up the remaining 25 motorcycles. These are more appropriate for patrolling major thoroughfares and areas where a more conspicuous presence of law enforcement is needed. With a combined fleet valued at nearly ₹1 crore, the two models provide the Greater Chennai Traffic Police with a flexible addition to their current resources.
What role does this donation play in CSK’s CSR initiatives?
The transfer is a component of CSK’s organized Corporate Social Responsibility program, which allows the franchise to allocate some of its funds to Chennai’s civic and community causes. By directing this specific donation to the traffic police, the team’s CSR efforts are directly linked to road safety, an issue that is particularly pertinent during the IPL season when match-day crowds significantly increase traffic volumes throughout the city.

The formal, institutional nature of the agreement between CSK and the city’s law enforcement administration is highlighted by the ceremony’s location, the Police Commissionerate in Vepery, and the attendance of both Commissioner Amalraj and Managing Director Viswanathan. In recent years, an IPL franchise has made one of the larger single-event CSR donations to a civic organization.
