For the upcoming two-match series in Bangladesh, Cricket West Indies has added Shamar Springer as a late addition to their Test team. Keemo Paul, a seam bowling all-rounder, left the touring team due to personal and family matters. On October 18, 2026, the board verified the modification.
Paul had just recently joined the team to take Alzarri Joseph’s place after he was pulled due to workload management. Now, Shamar Springer fills the void left by Paul’s departure.
Shai Hope, who has been rested for the series, will also be absent from the West Indies. Roston Chase will captain the team, with Jomel Warrican acting as vice-captain.
Why was Shamar Springer chosen over other candidates?
Before choosing Springer, Cricket West Indies looked at Ojay Shields and Nial Smith, both of whom were sidelined at the time of selection due to injuries. Despite not having played in a Test match yet, the 28-year-old has significant white-ball experience from playing for the West Indies in 12 T20Is and three ODIs.
The call-up is supported by Springer’s first-class record: in 23 games, he has amassed 1,043 runs at an average of 32.59 and claimed 58 wickets at a rate of 27.87, demonstrating his status as a true all-rounder at that level. The argument was further reinforced by his performance in the 2026 West Indies Championship, where he scored 251 runs at an average of 50.20 in four games and took seven wickets at an average of 42.00 with the ball over eight innings.

After finishing a white-ball assignment in India, West Indies head straight to Bangladesh. The tour came to an end on October 17, 2026, when the fifth Twenty20 International in Bengaluru was called off before a ball was bowled. The West Indies shared the T20I series 2-2 and lost the ODI leg 2-1.
The team will start getting ready in Bangladesh with a three-day practice match in Dhaka from October 22 to 24. The first test will take place in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1, while the second test will take place in Sylhet from November 5 to November 9.
