The Delhi Capitals have named Amit Mishra their spin bowling coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League. The veteran leg-spinner will return to the team where he played for the majority of his career after the appointment was confirmed on October 21, 2026.
Prior to IPL 2027, Amit Mishra joins a coaching staff that has undergone a significant reconstruction. Chaminda Vaas is in charge of fast bowling, Yuvraj Singh joins as assistant and batting coach, and Sourav Ganguly is named head coach. The specialist bowling structure in that setup is completed by Mishra’s role.
Amit Mishra’s first coaching assignment is this one. After playing in the IPL for 16 seasons, he last made an appearance in 2024. Last year, he declared his retirement from all forms of cricket.
One of the most successful wicket-takers in IPL history is Mishra. Throughout his career, he participated in 162 games and took 174 wickets at a best of 5 for 17. With those stats, he is clearly among the best bowlers the tournament has produced.
In addition, he has a record that no other bowler in IPL history can match: hat-tricks for three different teams. He won one for the Delhi Daredevils in 2008, another for the Deccan Chargers in 2011, and a third for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 to complete the set.
Few coaches can match his familiarity with the environment of the Delhi Daredevils and Delhi Capitals, where he spent ten of his sixteen IPL seasons. He should be able to quickly transition into a mentoring role with the squad’s spin options thanks to that extended association.
Which Delhi Capitals spinners might profit from Amit Mishra’s coaching?
Ahead of IPL 2027, the Delhi Capitals have significantly increased their spin resources. Zeeshan Ansari, a left-arm wrist spinner, moved to Hyderabad as part of a trade with Sunrisers Hyderabad, along with T Natarajan.
The Delhi Capitals team also includes leg-spinners Rehan Ahmed and Vipraj Nigam. Working with Mishra, whose own playing record was built on the same discipline over 16 seasons, presents a significant opportunity for both young wrist-spin bowlers in the early stages of their T20 careers.

The Delhi Capitals have put together a coaching staff with significant playing experience in all three disciplines with the confirmation of Mishra’s appointment. As IPL 2027 preparations begin, the team will be looking to that collective background.
