Speculation regarding MS Dhoni‘s cricketing future continues ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Amidst this discussion, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has broken his silence on the possibility of MS Dhoni playing in IPL 2027.
Speaking to local media in Chennai, Kasi Viswanathan clarified that the final decision regarding Dhoni playing would rest entirely with the former Indian captain. He stated that whenever Dhoni visits Chennai, he personally informs the team management about his plans.

Expressing optimism, Viswanathan said the franchise hopes to see “Thala” play again. The CEO remarked, “I think there is a possibility of him continuing to play for CSK. He is still a player.” This indicates that the door remains open for him to play another season.
This hope arises following the challenging IPL 2026 season, during which persistent injuries prevented MS Dhoni from playing a single match. His absence on the field was deeply felt by the five-time champions; Chennai Super Kings struggled to find their rhythm and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Despite not taking the field, MS Dhoni remained actively involved with the team in the dugout and during practice sessions, mentoring young players throughout the tournament.

CSK is already planning major changes for the upcoming cycle, including decisions regarding the coaching staff, such as the appointment of former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan as head coach. Over a career spanning 278 IPL matches, MS Dhoni has scored 5,439 runs at an average of 38.3, including 24 half-centuries.
